Re: need some ideas

Dont have any ideas other than hard plastic Tupperware from like walmart i had to keep some in that for a few days and they never even tried to get out, to slick of a surface. Where are you moving in NC? Im really close to the SC/NC border.

Re: need some ideas

yea, some wallmart plastic tubs would probably do the trick. just poke or soldering iron some air holes.
i house mine in bird cages, you could get one of those.

Rats could live through a nuclear war. Theres no reason to put them all down for the trip. Just get a big sweater box. put some bedding in it etc and basic essentials. Ventilate the lid with a drill and then duct tape it shut. and your set.

And when I say sweater box I mean the big rubbermaid ones.

I agree- they are insanely resilient. No reason to put them down unless your snakes eat f/t. Can you get one of the plastic bins vendors put rats in for shows? They're like sweaterboxes but have ventilation and air filters in the lids.

Re: need some ideas

The way I always ship rats when traveling is really simple, I take a soldering iron and scald the inside bottom of Tupperware containers (to give them grip so they don't slide around, add some wood chips to absorb pee and poke some air holes. Put the Tupperware inside their normal metal cage and pack it with crumpled newspaper on the sides so it doesn't fly around the car.

Re: need some ideas

Thats why I put the Tupperware inside their original cage, so even if they eat their way out they are still trapped.

Re: need some ideas

toss the box on your hubbies lap, anything gets out its his job to throw it back in. Turn a dull 16 hour drive into a fantastic 16 hour game of catch the jumping rats.

In this case, I recommend a cardboard box with large airholes around 3" across placed randomly along the lower sides of the box.
