Royal Feeding frequencey
so my corn snake Ghonda has yet again refused to eat, been about a month so im not to worried. but i dont want that rat to go to wast but i fed Maynard (my Royal just in case you dont know) last week and he is about to shed, and i was wondering if feeding him again right now is just kinda pushing it, cause like i said i dont want the rat to go to waste BUT i dont want to overfeed my guy.

Re: Royal Feeding frequencey
You can try offering to him, if he takes it, just make a note and push his next feeding back a few days.

Re: Royal Feeding frequencey
oh man that was scary. i left ghonda in the feed box with the rat just in case she would eat it while i waited for a response and when i went to go put her in here viv and offer the food to maynard the lid was off and she was gone. i found her quick because i looked for my dogs and cat just to make sure she hadnt met a early demise and they werent in there normal local and she was, lol she totally eveicted them and was hidden in the mass of pillows they like to lay on.
snake 1 dogs 0
and maynard struck and is now eating (although it was the most pathetic strike ever he almost missed)

Re: Royal Feeding frequencey
i've had my little BP for just over 2 weeks and i've always heard feed babies every 5-7 days. i fed him last week and he ate fairly quickly, then i waited 7 days and fed him and he struck at the mouse and got it within like 3 seconds. he eats like a piglett.

Re: Royal Feeding frequencey
Feeding a royal python depends on several factors.
Age, whether it goes off feed during the winter, and most importantly the snake.
Unless the snake is adult, overweight, eating through the winter, and not a female you intend to mate, I wouldn't worry about overeating. I've got 4, and if they aren't hungry, they don't eat.
In my opinion, worrying about a royal python over eating is borrowing trouble, because they are so prone to going off feed.

Re: Royal Feeding frequencey
My ball python was like 2 feet when i got him, just about 4 months ago, and he always eats when i give him food. i've heard people say, "if you have a BP that eats regularly, consider yourself blessed." but he is growing at a phenomenal rate, he's like 3 feet now, but i shouldn't be worried about over feeding him right? he only eats a mouse/rat every 4-6 days.

4-6 days, imo, is way too often to feed. I have always been told because BP are less active species of snake they should be fed every 10-14 days. I feed mine every 14 days and he does fine with that. He has just started eating again after a break of about 12 weeks.

well he always seems somewhat less active after about 8-9 days without feeding, but i'm only feeding him mice right now so i feed him more often. a rat would hold him longer though.

Re: Royal Feeding frequencey
Do hognose go off feed during the winter? My little girl hasn't eaten since Christmas Eve and it has been almost 3 months since I got her and she hasn't shed. I really thought snakes shed more often than this.
