Borneo's spine?..........

...Hello, I acquired my first short-tail last month,at a local show.A very pleasant tempered adult male.Although his spine has not been taken care of in his infancy.It's like ten miles of Alabama road,crooked and abused.We all know how delicate their extroverted spines can be,especially how they have a tendency to do damage to themselves trying to be free.From the "misalignment" that has been afflicted,it has to have been an escape from someone who was unaware of the condition. He has no paralysis and great movement,but I wonder,with age,will this cause him discomfort?(For it is not just a few.)Do any of you have shorts/bloods with damaged vertebraes?Any problems?Thank you for your time..Sinc.,Jason

Im no vet, but i have heard of snakes with similar problems, as well as i think there is a owner of a boa on these forums which has a sever kink or missalignment within its neck area and it has grown up fine.

I would assume, that since it is an adult, it should continue to function as it is.
Discomfort wise, i would think that it would stay the same since it wont be doing much more growing, and i would treat it as a "handicapped" snake.
it has a disability, but with careful handling, etc...it should be fine.
However, there is always the possibility of future complications, but that i dont have a clue.

Is it possible to show us any pictures of your borneo?
and why did you buy this snake if it had these problems?

Hello Grant, thanks for your input..As of now,I don't have a digital camera.Maybe I'll pick one up soon..As far as buying this animal,I sold alot of top-end cages I purchased a few years ago when I went through a bad stage.They have been in my basement,empty,for awhile.The borneo was included in the money deal to cover the shortage.I figured I'd meet someone who could use a healthy adult male.The kinks aren't in his neck area,just in mid-back.From his clean sheds,good appetite,and attitude,I enjoy him..I've never had a short-tail before now,and I'm finding they are quite different from Bloods.One thing I noticed,they are as "vocal" as the Bloods I had when I was younger,and he's not as quick to "spray".(ha)..Thanks again Grant..Sinc.,Jason

i knew a guy in england that kept bloods and one of his adults tried to eat too big a meal. it dislodged some vertebrae just below the neck, causing the snake to have no control of its head. it seemed to be fine and still ate if helped out. last i heard he had become a father!!!!

If the snake was in great discomfort it would gape or show other signs of distress...

don't know y it happened but it did, my mate felt shitte about it, but usually its the same thing if its too big it won't eat. although there have been some cases when snakes have been found in the wild with the horns of antelope stiking through their stomach wall.
