feeding question

hi all, new to the site, and a new snake mom! I have a ball python that is approximately 25 inches in length, and wondering if I should feed 2 adult mice. My snake seems to take his food well, but I just dont know if he is still hungry after one mouse. can anyone help?

Re: feeding question

Have you thought of trying small rats instead??

2 mice will not hurt, but one small rat has less fatty tissues.

Re: feeding question

Hello and welcome. At that size it should be eating one small rat every 14 days or 2 to 3 rat fuzzies every week. Rats are much healthier. Like infernalis said rat have less fat. Mine been eating small rat sence it was 24 inches. He 3 feet now and eats one med rat every 14 days.

Re: feeding question

I knew that eventually I would have to switch to rats, but it seems that even a small rat would be too big. I will have to see if my pet store carries rat fuzzies and see if I can get him to take them, but now my question is this: do I feed all of the fuzzies at once, or do I spread them out thru out the week? Thanks for your help.....

At once but only put 1 at a time in. Once it eat that one then another.

Re: feeding question

It took me a little trial and error to find the appropriate size of rat for my bp (he's about the same size as yours).

Small rats can be too big. My advice is, if the place you buy your rodents sorts them by size, get the smallest "small rat" they have. My bp took that without hesitation after refusing a larger "small rat".

Your snake will tell you if it's still hungry. You can try offering another prey item (f/t or freshly killed only.) My bp took a spare rat fuzzy after his weaned rat this week. But generally speaking, the largest single prey item he'll take is the best for him since it will have more nutrition, and less fat than several small prey items.
