Aggression

I was in a pet shop earlier today buying cat food but as normal went to have a look at their Beardies. They had recently been fed and as i watched two of them started fighting and having a right go at each other.

I called a member of staff and between us we separated the pair but one of them had quite a nasty wound at the base of its tail around the anus.

Are Beardies usually aggressive toward each other like this??

Re: Aggression

I can't say, I have only been around them one at a time.

Re: Aggression

keep multiple animals in a single enclosure and there will always be some form of dominance. beardies are considered "social" animals in the wild and can sometimes be kept in groups in captivity in a big enough enclosure. however keepers rarely provide big enough enclosures for multiple animals so the occupant's social interactions are limited to the captive environment. if that means severely injuring the other beardie because he has no escape like he would in a natural setting, for example, then thats what will happen.

Re: Aggression

Sadly, I have seen pet shops stuff animals of different species into one "display" cage.

There seems to be no standards for how they conduct business. (aside from paying taxes)
