ASF Rats

I'm thinking of breeding ASF Rats, for the next month or two I will have to keep them in my room. Are they like a hamster when all you can hear is the wheel turning and a little digging or do they talk(squeek)? Do they need sunlight or can I keep them up in my closet or should i put a light on a timer?

Re: ASF Rats

i breed rats, i tell you there worse then hampsters lol, on the move all the time, yes for the wheel cause its on a larger scale to suite there body size, and they stink......when the babies are born they squeel a lot and when the females are in heat the male chases them all the time, at times the females protest so you get alot of fighting. i would say if your going to do this wait until you can have a spare room to put them in. juvies talk to each other to which isnt so bad but if your trying to sleep it may get in the way of that. good luck though, your colony will grow fast and its a lot of work but once the money rolls in or if its your own supply and you can finally stop paying pet store prices for feeders its worth it in the end. oh and for the light, they need the same light cycle as humans do, so stuffing them in a dark closet may make for a unproducing unhappy rat!
