Snakes??

I have a few questions about different types of snakes. OKay well I am new to having a snake and I think he is amazing. Well I want to know are most snakes friendly? And are they like dogs, the larger they are the shorter life span they have? What is one of the easier snakes to have? Have you ever had your snake bite you? I know some of these questions are random but I am not sure and would like to know. Oh and thanks to everyone wo helped me withhim not eating. He is eating and normal again. It was just because he was shedding!! Thank god!!

Re: Snakes??

Most breeds of snake can be calmed with a little work, and some breeds tend to lean towards calm. There not friendly like say a cat or a dog and dont care for your affection.

Actually some of the biggest breeds live the longest.

some of the easier snakes to keep are corns, my favorite, some like Ball pythons, milks or sand boas. theres alot more fairly easy ones but those are some.

Ive had several my snakes bite me. In fact one of my calmest ones bit my 6 year old on the thumb yesterday when he reached into the tub no clue why he's never bit and didnt bite him again when he picked him up.

Re: Snakes??

But what do you do when one of your snakes bites you? Do you put them straight back into there cage. And if bitten do they let go or hold on?

Re: Snakes??

Bleed LOL
Sometimes yes sometimes no, if a snake clues in that biting means it will get left alone it will bite everytime.
If the bite is a defensive bite they let go ASAP
if it is a food response bite they will either let go ASAP or they will hang on & constrict if they "think" they have prey which some snakes will do.
California Kingsnakes are pretty well known for this as are some other Kingsnakes, as they have strong food responses. Mark

Re: Snakes??

Getting bit doesn't hurt to much. Until a 10 foot burm mistakes you hand for food bites, raps and try to swollows your hand. I ended up with nerve damage in my pointer finger. Couldn't move it more than 1\8 of a inch for 6 months. It's head was as big if not bigger than my hand. That why i stick with med side snakes. Doesn't hurt when they bite.

Re: Snakes??

Lol. Yeah they don't get too big. Even full grown, their bites don't really hurt that badly.
