My first corn snake!

Hi guys, well I got my first corn snake Sunday. I've got lots of boas and pythons and milksnakes, but I went to this big pet store near me in Lancaster, PA (That Pet Place) and I told myself I was NOT going to buy any reptiles, no matter what....
Well you know what they say about the best laid plans....I ended up going into their reptile room and saw some customer had brought in an adult snow cornsnake, supposedly she was "aggressive". I held her and she was fine; a bit twitchy like my milks, but not bitey at all. I brought her home and named her Glacier. She's gorgeous and she knows it! I am going to find a nice male to pair her with; what kinds of corn morphs go well mixed with snow? I love the lavas and the okeetees. Any suggestions?

Very pretty! Congrats on the new Snow. Might consider putting a Ghost with her. To make Coral snows they look really nice some can be nearly the same as a snow and some come out with beautiful pink saddles....

She is a bit testy after all. ..lol. I tried to pick her up and she drummed her tail and struck at me, then retreated. I got her with gloved hands and once she was out she was fine. *sigh* seems I have gotten myself yet another cage aggressive snake. Oh well, at least she's ok once she's out. I got myself a nice pair of gauntlet snake handling gloves to use with my tiger rat who throws a fit when you put your hand in his cage, and it appears they will come in handy for multiple snakes. I'm actually leaning towards a reddish cornsnake male; I really like some of the brighter morphs. What would a lava or blood paired to a snow result in? I'm not too familiar with corn morphs, although I'm trying to read up before I go to the M.A.R.S. show Sept. 20

Snows consist of amel and anery combined so bred to anything without those morphs you're looking at just plain ole hets.

yup like Aaron S said pairing with anything other than anerys, amels or another snow will produce normals that are het...

For instance: Lava( new independant form of hypomelanism) x Snow
Phenotype: 1 / 1 Normal het Anery, Amel, Hypo

Genotype: 1 / 1 Normal het Amel, Anery, Hypo

ghost x snow
Phenotype: 1 / 1 Anery het Amel, Hypo
Genotype: 1 / 1 Anery het Amel, Hypo

For fun if you bred the second set back to each other...

3 / 8 Anery het Amel 66% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Ghost ( Anery, Hypo ) het Amel
3 / 8 Snow ( Amel, Anery ) 66% poss het. Hypo

Its all a bit confusing for sure.. basicly if you want first breeding results then go back with one of the three snow,amel,anery... I cheated a lil so Im fairly certain all of the above is correct.

Cool. Thanks guys! I really love bloodred corns, but maybe I'll look for an amelanistic- those are pretty cool too. Is creamsicle a form of amelanistic or hypomelanistic?

They are actually a cross between a corn snake and a rat snake (Pantherophis guttatus x Pantherophis emoryi).

I found a corn snake morph gallery that was pretty helpful. I would love to make coral snows or caramel snows. It said coral snow was amel+anery+lavender, so if I got a lavender male would that work, or would the babies just end up being het snow/het lavender? If I got a caramel would I end up with some caramel snows, or just caramel het snows and normals?

Coral is actually Hypo,Amel,Anery... with reccesive traits it takes longer you have to have 2 of each trait present. So if you bred two snows together the babies would have.
2 amel and 2 anery traits making snows. If you bred a lavender to a snow you would have one each of Lavender,Amel, and anery traits so norms, so yup hets... but they wouldnt be say Lavenderl het snow they would be normal het for all three traits. I'm not tryin to be smart *** or anything either, I have to keep it simple cause Im to dumb to explain it otherwise lol...

Oh sorry forgot to add that Snow and Lavender is a Snopal not a Coral...

NP i like corn snake genetics, Im pretty new to it all.. that site and the corn nsake morph guide helped alot.

Ok, I found a yearling male red albino corn snake that's near me, and I'm going to pick him up on Sunday. I'm also going to a show on the 20th, so I'll check around for snow males. I figure it couldn't hurt to have another snow, or perhaps an albino female as well, so I can produce two clutches of corns. I really do love the red albinos- corn snakes are so pretty and the more I look, the more morphs I see..they really are quite interesting and beautiful!

Corns are truly awsome easy care not to much space taken up and the possibilites are near endless. I'm starting a bit of a zigzag project so have been picking up as many as i can with that sort of pattern...
