Re: hi all

Oh, WOW! It sounds like you really have your hands full!! Do your sons enjoy having all the pets around? I currently have a beardie and a ball python (also 2 cats, 1 dog, fish) I am hoping to expand my collection and maybe get a brazillian rainbow boa when I have the time to look after it and somewhere to put it.

Re: hi all

Hi, Melonysbaby! Welcome to the forum! I was a mom at home, too, and my kids LOVED having lots of animals! They learned a lot about animals and about taking responsibility, and were inspired to learn to read by our animals. We had WC (wild caught) snakes, turtles, frogs, insects, fish--you name it, we probably had it (if it lived in our area)! One time they caught a crayfish in our creek that had eggs under her tail, and we fixed up an aquarium for her and watched them hatch and grow. Another time, my oldest son found slug eggs under the house and we hatched baby slugs and raised them for awhile. Mostly we did catch & release, though we kept one turtle for many years, and he still comes back to visit (he still lives in our yard). Now my kids are grown & living on their own, but I still have one snake (a BP), two dogs, two cats, & fish and am planning to get more. (Thank goodness for a DH who doesn't mind the animals even though he's not as into them as I am!)

Your kids are really lucky to have a mom like you--and you'll be the hit of the neighborhood when they get older!

Again, welcome!

Sandy

Re: hi all

thanks you both so much. yes my boys love having all the animlas. but as you said my dh isnt as into them as i am but he tolerates it as i tolerate his hobbies. he is into cars. he rebuilds and restores mustangs. so we comprimise. lol.
Chu'Wuti you sound so much like me. lol. i started catching snakes and lizards when i was only5 yrs old. my mom hated them and still does to this day. lol. she teases me all the time telling me im going to warp my kids. lol. but i always ask her what happened to me and my sister? lol. who warped us. we are both really bad when it comes to animals. lol. we love them all and will take anything in. lol. my poor hubby. lmao. it wasnt that long ago when i came home with the hissers. he was so upset that i brought **** roaches into the house. lol. i just laughed at him. the arent a breeding pair so no chance of reproduction. plus they arent like house hold **** roaches. they are very neat little creatures. and they are my oldest sons favs right now. lol. which my hubby just loves. lol.
im already the cool mom in the neighborhood. all the kids flock here to see the animals and they play with my boys and are very good with them. mostly girls come over. the boy in the neighborhood havent come over. lol. my poor boys. lol. surrounded by all these girls. lol. but they dont have aclue they are only 1 and 2 yrs old.

sandy where do you live in the U.S.?
but thanks again for the warm welcome.

Re: hi all

I'm so sorry about your chameleon dying! That's so sad. About the only thing I can think of that is "positive" about it is that losing a pet helps children learn about death and loss . . . I'm really sorry.

Me, too! My mother was completely phobic about snakes! I had a great-uncle who visited us and he had a brand-new movie camera (video cameras didn't exist then) and he made a movie of me catching snakes. My mother freaked when she found out--she hadn't known I was catching snakes! My poor mom!

I'm not a fan of roaches--they are the one and only animal I'm phobic about! Pretty silly, huh? But my oldest son kept hissing roaches and deathshead roaches for awhile. I told him he could have them as long as they stayed upstairs where I didn't have to see them!

I live in Oklahoma. Too bad we don't live closer to each other--we'd have fun!

Re: hi all

yes we would. lol. well if you ever come this way please stop by and say hi. you could stay for the weekend or something. lol.
you are right about it teaching the little ones about death. they are only 1 and 2yrs but they get the idea. i had to tell them about it going ot heaven. but they have seen animlas go to heaven before. i had a litter of chihuahua pups that passed away. she had 6 and 5 died. they couldnt latch on to her nipples so i had to tube feed them. anyways the formula that i had just bought was recalled and it killed the pups. it was so sad. i tried so hard to keep them alive. but it was something i couldnt have known. i did everything right and they still died. but when they did i took that oppurtunity to show my boys and tell them they were going to heaven and they were able to say good by to them. they were a little upset but did very well. i think its important for them to learn all about life and everything that comes with it. i know they are young but they do seem to understand to an extent.
well anyways on a happier note i am going to use the tank for a amazon tree python maybe. i have to talk hubby into giving me the money for it. lmoa.
