Re: New Member
Hi, Katrina! It's nice to have another woman on here; the testosterone levels can get pretty high!
It's sad that you lost Zen, but I'm glad you know what happened. BPs are really cool snakes, though--are you thinking of getting another one? I have had a lot of different snakes, but I have a BP now. I really like him.

Hi Katrina, welcome! As Chu said, nice to see some more girls on here! Too bad about your BP, I'm sure you'll find another great snake though, lots of ideas on here.
I do a lot of art myself, what are you into?

Re: New Member
Welcome to the site! Another Ball Python is probably the best choice. Just look around and avoid the large chain petstores. Try to find a reputable breeder and don't be afraid to pay a little extra if you have to.

Re: New Member
Yes, BPs are your best bet for that size range. And you can point out to your mom how "docile" they are, since they're such laid-back snakes!
Also, think of the fantastic color & pattern range! Depending upon how much money you have/how long you save up, you can get a really cool snake. You should see Mykee's piebalds--they are gorgeous!
I'll go find the name of the thread they're in & post it.

Re: New Member
The thread is "Piebald?" and Mykee's photo is on page 2.
I love looking at those snakes!
Of course, there are many other beautiful BP morphs, too.

Re: New Member

I think you're thinking of milk snakes; they're the same genus as kingsnakes (Lampropeltis) but different species with very different coloring (usually--depends on the morph) and sometimes different patterns (but this also depends on the morph). The normal milk snake is yellow/black/red, while a coral snake has black/yellow/red stripes (order of colors goes with saying, "Black on yellow, kill a fellow," which is intended to help people remember how to tell the venomous snake from the nonvenomous snake, whereas for the milk snake, the saying is" Red on black, OK Jack" meaning it isn't venomous).
Milk snakes (and king snakes) can make very nice pet snakes, but they aren't as easy to handle as BPs. Not generally snippy, though some can be (same with corns) but just fast-moving, so they aren't so easy to handle as they won't be still much. I had a Pueblan Milk Snake for 2+ years (snake-sitting for a friend) and I really enjoyed it.
