OK, I'm female, and I myself won't do a retic--they just get too big. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't have one around--I just don't want to be the snake keeper for such a big python.
Is your wife accustomed to handling any of your current herps? Especially the kingsnake? Is she comfortable with it?
Do you have a room that can be a snake room so she can avoid your retic if she wants to do so?
Have you thought about getting a BP as a "trainer" snake to help her become more comfortable with snakes?
I currently have a BP and they are very mild in temperament, so most people--even people who have never handled a snake at all--become very comfortable with them in a very short time.
If she's not phobic (and I'm assuming she's not or she wouldn't have married you with your current reptiles), then a pretty BP might entice her to join you in your interest. You could consider this a step towards your dream retic. Remember, patience is a virtue! (teasing!)
Good luck!
