Re: My Girls

Thanks Guru. Im way new to the snake world. I bought Scarlet from a local guy that owns a pet store, and Sophia was given to me with a 55 gallon enclosure. She is the fatty of the snake family... lol. I have been feeding the small one mice every 5-7 days, and I just fed the big one a med rat, and was told do that every 2 weeks.. Is that a good rule of thumb?

Yeah when they get older like that, larger meals more infrequently aren't a bad idea at all, Once they get to be 5 or 6 years old thier growth rate tapers off dramatically and you can relax off the feeding a bit. Always go by the overall appearence of the snake, they shouldn't have "fat rolls" snakes are meant to be sleek. Yours look perfect in form so it looks like you are doing just fine.

Re: My Girls

Guru, one of my buddy was doing the whole breeding the mice thing, he soon got sick of it and is trying to give me some of the mice... I feed my small girl 1 mouse every 5+ days, and the bigger one I have fed her 1 med size rat since I got her. The previous owner said he fed her 2 pinky rat's every 2 weeks. OK so heres the question. Would it be bad if i started feeding the bigger girl the mice and if so how often, and how many per feeding? any help would be great. I just dont want to ruin what I have seen is just perfect for her being she get the med rat every 10-14 days.

Personally man, I would tsick with the rat if I were you, BPs can be hard to get to switch back and fourth like that, sometimes they will, but it would be a real pain if you wanted to go back to rats later on and she was now use to mice....kind of like starting over from square 1.

If you were going to feed mice, just weigh the mice and compare it to the weight of a Med. Rat then average it out over your normal feeding days....for instance say the Med. Rat weighs 8.0 ounces and Mouse weighs 1.0 ounce (going off my F/T charts) if you feed 1 rat every 10 to 14 days that means to be compareable to the rat you would have to feed 4 mice every week (7 days)

But as I said personally I would just keep her on the rats.

Re: My Girls

Thanks Guru, I figured you would suggest that so I will take the advise and stick to the rats.
