Help!!!

Ok I am new to this site, in which I found on the internet while searching for information about a snake in which I have had no luck. I thaught maybe someone on here could help. I am not sure which forum to put this in so I just picked this one. The other day I seen a snake I have never seen before in the hills of East Kentucky. This snake was in between 6 and 8 feet long...It was solid black with, get this, yellow bands(rings) around its body from head to tail. It also had a diamond shaped head...Kinda like a rattle snakes head. If someone could help me by providing some information on this snake...Is it venomus??? Is it at all dangerous to me or any one else??? PLEASE HELP

unless you are exaggerating the length, the snake is not venomous. if it was truly that long it is probably a black rat snake or some other species of colubrid, which would make it harmless. im guessing your not a snake enthusiast. if this is the case, your best bet is to leave the snake alone and it shouldnt bother you. if you have any other questions, feel free to ask

I am not exaggerating a bit on the length. There is a couple of members on here that have an avatar that looks like the color of the snak I have seen.

Here's a nice site I found on Kentucky snake species (despite the fact they use the term poisonous instead of venomous) - http://www.kentuckysnakes.org/

If what you saw wasnt like any of those, chances are its an escaped pet. What you describe kind of sounds like a jungle carpet python, maybe do a search online for them too to see if thats what it was.

One of the members has a a picture of a jungle carpet python on here and at first that is what I thaught it was but where I seen this snake was right below my house and I am sure no one here where I live at hasn't had a snake let alone a python....my father also mentioned seeing one identical to the one I listed above streched out across the pavement at a gas station in South Carolina on our way home from vacation.

did it look similar to any of the snakes on that site that was posted? and as i said before, if it was that big, it wasnt any *native* venomous snake.

The statement about seeing one in South Carolina pretty much sealed it for me. It was likely a rat snake. Black rats might be found there, though I didnt find them listed on the site that DaemoNox posted. Adult black rats arent always solid black but sometimes could look to a novice to be banded. It seems highly unlikely that it was a jungle carpet python. I have a buddy who has seen some mightly large black rats as well.
