Micro Gecko - species ID, caresheet info

Hello!

3 weeks ago I purchased an "Egyptian Micro Gecko". He's about an inch long. I've been trying to figure out exactly what species he is, and based on what I've found on the internet (which isn't much!) I believe him to be either Tropiocolotes tripolitanus or Tropiocolotes steudneri. I've not been able to find reliable caresheets on either species, and the photos I've found on the net of both species look similar, but still different from mine. My little guy is of the same basic body shape of the other Tripolitanus, but his colors are very vivid! He's a very prominent peachy-pink with blue splotches.

I've currently got this guy set up in a 3 gallon Kritter Keeper, with the hot side at ~90F, cool side ~75F, paper towel for substrate, and hides, water dish, etc. similar to how I keep my Leopard gecko. He (?) is eating ~8 pinhead crickets a week; last night he ate 10 baby mealworms. Today I added a moist hide, but he hasn't used it. He's super active, and doesn't appear to be completely nocturnal.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a good caresheet, that would be great. Also, has anyone here kept these guys? Anything I should do differently? Info RE: humidity, calcium/vitamins, lighting?

Here's a picture of "Jaws", with a penny to show scale. His back isn't crooked, that's just the way he's standing...

Thanks!

I love those guys! Cute as buttons and easy care too.
Check out the care sheet for Stenodactylus sthenodactylus Care Sheet at the GGA. Their care is pretty much the same, just scale down the food to the smaller sized versions. The Stenos and Tropios come from the same general area, even live together in some areas.
I had T. steudneri about 12-14 years ago. My 3.7 ended up being 9.1 but it was a long time before I knew what to look for and figured it out. The group was set up in a 40 (45?) gallon tank with play sand. I made several 'cliffs' with large rocks resting on the floor so they don't tip, left crevices for the geckos to hide in. A few humid hides all over the tank in different temperature ranges were all used, I guess it doesn't matter if it's a warm or cool hide as long as it's humid? They also had some wood branches to climb around. Even with only one female, the males never fought, never saw injuries. They seem to be at least a bit communal since they do accept other males but one male will become dominant. He'll find himself a high spot and chirp often, calling females and warning other males he's the boss. The chirps are way quieter than crickets, it took me ages to figure out it was coming from the geckos so there's no need to worry about the neighbours complaining. Heat was supplied with a UTH at night as well as an incandescent light during the day. They are supposed to be nocturnal but I found them out and about any time of day, even basking under the light.

All told, if you can get a group of them set up you'll be pleasantly surprised. They are fun to watch.

Thanks for the replies!

Wow, looks like I should have picked up a few more! They sound really neat when they're all together!

DragnDrop, how big did yours grow to be? Jaws is so small, is he an adult or juvenile? Are they sexed just like leopard geckos?

Good to know about the humid hides. I'll be sure to keep it.

You said you used playsand. I was afraid to go the sand route for fears of impaction... How long did yours live, on average?

Ciddian, I just get my crix at the pet store I work at. I don't have enough animals to warrant ordering online or anything.
