new tortoise

This is kind of a long story so I am going to try and highlight the details.About 2 weeks ago my fiance's father(who is a mailman) asked me if I wanted a box turtle.I said ok as I already have a zoo so more is "usually" welcome.Well the guy that asked him about taking it was not home the next few times he made his stop there.A few days ago I got a call at work asking if I still wanted it.I was told that it came with a "Huge" tank and it was free.I really wanted the tank, but I have always been intrested in turtles so I said I would take it.Well when the thing was delivered to me the "Huge" tank turned out to be a 20 gallon long, and the box turtle was actually some kind of tortoise. From pictures I have seen it really looks like a desert tortoise.I live in a apartment and have no place for an adult tortoise. It could be a russian but it really dosent look like any pictures I have seen.We have been buying carrots and other foods that care sheets said to feed it,but I am not going to be able to afford it when it grows up.It is only about 9 inches long right now.If anyone is intrested in it,i'll give it away.I know they need to be outside in warm weather and I can't provide that.Any other help will be greatly appreciated!!!

There is a mix of people from all over, but it seems to be primarily a Canadian site. All the best.

Do you have any pictures of it? If you do this will help people on this site determine what species it is. I'm going to guess it's an African Spur-thigh (Geochelone sulcata) as they are so readily available in the states. Again, try and post some pics of it.

no camera...

I don't have a digital camera to post pics with.I really don't think it is a russian because it has a darker shell.I'll look up the one you just said and see if that might be it.
