what is the minimum breeding size/weight for a male and a female ball?

out of curoisty why post the same question in a bunch of different catagories.. do you have all these animals and are looking to breed or just curious..

if your curious and would like to learn more on breeding of different species you can get in depth guides all over the net.. youll learn more info there than in one shot here.. here is definatly better for specifics though...

Males as low as 300 grams and 8 months.
Females as low as 1000 grams and 2nd winter.

I have heard of males being ready as low as 500-600g but never at 300g wow, have you personally had a male go that small? Females it is usually a min of 1200g, you start them small.

I have 2 females that are pushing 1200g and are 3 yrs old this fall and I will pair them up because they are 3 years old. The '05's will be paired up if they are 1500g but not if they are under that.

He asked what the minimum size was that they are breedable, so I told him. I never said that I breed them that small, or that he should, or anyone should for that matter. I don't have first hand experience breeding one that small, because I wouldn't cool a 300 gram male. I do however, have a friend that successfully bred his 100% het albino male at around 300-400grams. The only reason he did it, was because it was already fasting, so he wanted to induce it's appetite by cooling it, and it worked. He got a bunch of 50% hets outta the deal too. I'm not at all saying that if your ball is fasting, that you should cool it either. I'm just saying that it worked for him. As for SOME first hand experience, I haven't bred a 300 grammer, but I have seen lots of 300 grammers that are producing sperm plugs, and that tells me that they are sexually mature. And the way I see it, if a male is sexually mature, then that means he IS breedable. It doesn't necessarily mean that he is good to go, but it does mean that his "goods" are good to go.

Not trying to sound rude at all, I realize it probably sounds rude, (same goes for above), but I'm curious how you're planning on getting your 05's to 1500grams for breeding season, if your 3 year olds are only 1200?

LOL, should have read '04s not '05s..... Of my 9 '04 females 2 are over 1400g already, 2 are at 1000g, 3 are at 900g and the last 2 are only 500g, they all differ in weights depending on their eating habits and that is out of my hands and up to them, much as I try to convince them to eat a rat every week some of them seem to disagree.

LOL, my biggest '05 is 168g and I'm dang proud she is that big (she was 44g when I got her in July) LOL, well on her way to 1500g for NEXT year, as long as she decides to keep eating her rats.

80% of males will go first winter/spring and 500-700g. Just be careful as you don't want them to stop growing, and you can, very rare though, actually kill them.

Females 2nd or 3rd year and at LEAST 1500g. Preferrably bigger.

see i start my male at 1000g 2 winter and my females 1850+ 3 winter so am fine.my friend did not trust me so i posted this so he could see what other people breed at.

hey jeff... your sayin that a male MAY be ready its first winter...

im getting a het for pied soon that was hatched out in mid to late june i believe... and your saying that there is a chance that my male may breed this comming season...

Is it possible or even common to delay the breeding season using heat and light, so that your snakes have time to acquire the proper weight? I have a 1200 gram female who has been gaining 100grams a month since I acquired her. She is an '03. I have two 1000 gram '03's who are gaining at the same rate.

A male can breed his first year if he is up to weight, many people will breed a male in his first winter as long as he is big enough, healthy enough.

Technically you can start breeding season whenever you start cooling your snakes. If you want to wait until Jan so that your girls put on more weight then don't start cooling them till then.
