I prefer to boil my rocks, for about a half hour. Wood is very dependent on how thick and how dry it is. Do a low oven temp, about 250, and start at 20 minutes. If it is not very hot, keep checking every 10 minutes until it is. I rest a meat thermometer against my branches and wait until it reads at least 175 degrees.

Very thick logs sometimes need an hour or two where a thin dry branch may start to burn and blacken in a half hour.
