Stick on UTH

Has anyone ever used a "stick on" UTH with their ball? After asking around I had people telling me that perhaps they would be a safer bet as apparently they are meant to be on 24-7 whereas human heating pads are not. I hesitate however due to the fact that these "stick on's" have no way of adjusting their temp... at least the human kind has low, med, and high...

Are these things safe, or am I right to be leery of such a product?

As I mentioned in the other thread prior to reading this one, it should be controlled via either a lamp dimmer or thermostat. I just use the ready-to-use plug-in lamp dimmers. Also, you probably won't want to stick it on, but rather stick it to a piece of parchment paper or something else, as once it gets stuck to your tank it is generally there for good :/

Hey, I purchased an UTT heat pad and just taped it on so that I can remove it when cleaning. I also went to Home Depot and got a dimmer switch to keep the heat where I need it, get one of those plug in ones so all you have to do is plug and go.

You don't happen to have an item number or something like that for the dimmer do you? I went to both Canadian Tire and Home Depot and they both looked at me like I just spoke chinese when I asked if they carried "Plug in dimmers". They both showed me the kind you have to wire up for like chandaliers or something... I went on Home Depot's site to try and find one so I could print out it's product number or something but can't find one on there either! Oh, and how much do those cost?

I couldn't give you a number or anything, but they are generally called Credenza lamp dimmers. You should be able to find them at Rona/Home Depot, but I know they are carried in the large home decor type places. Think "Linens and Things" or places like that.

I have a stick on UTH with my ball, and it works great. I dont have a dimmer or anything like that, but i have a hide on it for him and he loves it, rarely leaves it and i also have a thermometer in the hide and the temp is like 80-83. its perfect.

johan.. you may still wanna watch it though.. plug it into a dimmer anyways.. mine once got up the the mid 90's before i broke it... didnt do any harm cause i have tile on top ( leo tank) so it spread out the heat pretty well

Awesome! Thanks guys! I didn't know they had simple "plug and go" ones... I honestly thought I'd have to wire something up and at this point wasn't comfortable with that. I'll hit Home Depot, thanks again!

Sounds a like a good idea to stick to something so you can move it about and wouldn't have it stuck for good, but, wouldn't paper or something being stuck to it be a fire hazard?

it doesnt get hot enough.. well it shouldnt... its barely warm to the touch.. if your worried stick it to a peice of tile or something

It should not feel hot! You should keep your uth 95-98 degrees. People are 98 degrees so unless your hands are cold the uth feels just a little warm. If it feels hot it is probably too hot!
How do you tell if you uth is 95-98 degrees? Get an indoor outdoor digital thermometer (home depot has them too) stick the out door probe on the uth I use duct tape cause the sticky on the probe is not very strong.
Then you know exactly how hot your uth is. You can then adjust the dimmer switch till you have it right.

what i did to keep mine at about 83-85 is put a tile above it (inside the tank) and then put a few layers of paper towels on top of that. all that is under the subtrate.
