Question What to Feed Hatchlings

can they eat mealworms? or should it only be crickets?
and how often does one use vitamins and calcium?
and are they ok to keep on papertowel.....any specifics? i heard some ppl keep it damp
and are the temps the same as an adult?
i have an egg(very first one) about to hatch...week or 2 and i wanna know all what i need to do
=)

the quickest solution would be to search for care sheets on google. That way you have a resource for later on too.

I am going to guess a leopard gecko from your signature, in which case you're not going to want to feed mealworms, as their exoskeleton (chitin) is really hard for a young one to digest, and could lead to an impaction. For now, and until he is big enough to eat other insects (the feeder insect should be no larger then the space between your geckos eyes), feed him pinhead crickets.

As for calcium, offer your gecko calcium in a small bowl at all times. I have always kept them on newspaper or paper towel, with substrate in the hide to serve as a humid retreat as they would in nature. Mist this substrate (I use sphagnum moss) as to keep the area moist, not soaking. A basking spot of 90°F should be available through the use of a heat pad, with a cool retreat at around 74°F.

If your NOT talking about a leopard gecko, then I just waisted a whole two minutes typing this, so next time let us know what species your talking about :P.
