Talking Found after 6 months

Last night we found our snow corn snake...which had been missing for six months.

She escaped from her enclosure which had been closed but not locked. We searched and searched but I suspected that she had gotten down into the heating ducts.

After 3 months or so, we stopped looking and packed up her enclosure...well last night she pushed put a heat vent (in another room) and was laying on the floor waiting to be found.

She lost a lot of fat but is still very strong & healthy looking. I think she may have a resp. infection so I am keeping her warm and humid.

I'll feed her tonight...I'm sure she is very hungry. My fiancé thinks she may have eaten a few loose crickets...but I don't know about that.

Thanks.

I must have remembered wrong about the humidity. I was concerned about dehydration though. The air ducts are a dry & lonely place to live for that long.

I would really make sure that the snake is very well hydrated before you feed too much. We have found babies and fed them right away, only to have them die the next day because they were so dehydrated. I would give it a couple days without food to make sure that hydration is taken care of....

so glad you found her. if the RI dont get better with elevated heat she will need baytril. but make sure you lower the humidity.

Actually you remembered right about humidity. Just like a hot steam will clear up a RI in people it helps for snakes. Obviously we are not talking dripping here. That's what I have always read.

The other issue is the snake is probably dehydrated, and lowering the humidity even more will do nothing but make it worse.

This is all of course, my own opinion from my experiences.

That's what I thought Marisa.

I'm only guessing on the RI...I heard her make a hiss sound and since she was quite calm and I'd never heard her do that before...I assumed it might be RI. It definitely was not a constant breathing sound and there appears to be no discharge.

First thing I did was put her in with a water dish so I'm hoping she re-hydrates herself. I had a feeling that I shouldn't feed her right away. I'll let her acclimatize to her enclosure before feeding her.

Well if you see no other symptoms after some time, then I'd assume she was pissed at first and telling you to leave her alone. LOL!

Congrats on finding her.
