First time I've noticed anyone mentioning an earth snake. Last fall I was getting ready to pull up a 2x4 the previous owner of the property had driven into the ground and when I hit it with a sledge hammer a little snake was jarred from under a nearby rock. I took it inside to identify it and take a couple of pics. Took it back where I got it and turned it loose and after several days I found out it was an earth snake. I really looked like an 8" earth worm  Never seen or heard of one before. It was just too plain for me to keep.
