GTP questions

Ok, Here is the deal. After christmas I will be buying a pair of Green tree python. I want to purchase yearlings so I'm aware of their sex and I want to purchase a locality that is know for being docile. I know that Locality wont mean docile but from what I've read and have been told that biak tend to be more agressive. So I was just curious if anyone is aware of what localitys tend to be more docile.

Ok, How much should one yearling GTP cost me.
What do you guys think are the best localitys to own for temperment and beauty. (looks before temperment in my case I don't have any real interest in handling them)
And do you guys know of any reputable breeders in the US that sells GTP yearlings.

I know I will probably have to search around for yearlings but I'm willing to invest the time and money on them so that I can get what I want. Anyways tell me everything you guys know and if you want to include pictures of your babys I would love to see them.

Thanks for your help guys.

Well, I don't have the answer to any of your questions -- but I'm quite interested to see what everyone else has to say I'll be doing the same search myself soon enough, although I'm not as picky about age -- babies would be just fine. But I'm curious about prices, and who in Canada is working with these guys and would be good to buy from...

Hopefully some of the experts will get in on this!

Syst3m, go here for ANY GTP questions in the US. Also, talk to Don on the upcoming chat on this site. He's got a wackload of them and has no less than 6-8 females to try in 2003.

Syst3m, i agree with Jeff, you can find some great breeders right on the front page of chondroweb.com. If you just want a nice snake for a pet, you should be fine with any locale if you handle it from a young age and show it you are not a threat to its well being.

Man how confusing.

After reading everything I could about GTP and the related breeders I am now more confused then I was before. With the debates about localities and the lack of definition of any actual strains I'm now lost. Looks like I will just have to take a stab at it when I'm ready.

yep....

The GTP community is worse than the Bci or Bcc communities. That's why I directed you to Chondroweb, instead of trying to explain it to you. LOL!

Have fun!

Chondro

I've got a Biak. It's a bit over two years old. I never touched the thing (without a hook) until my g/f decided she wanted to pick it up. I said fine..... but you're gonna get nailed. She just reached right in and grabbed it. It have been handled numurous time since than and has never bitten.

Besides, Biaks are the best lookin' locality!!!!

The aru local tend to be the most docile. Though any local can be handled, some are more prone to aggresive behavior. I have several biaks and only one has offered to bite. For a first time chondro keeper I would definately go with an aru. Always remember to buy captive breed snakes as saving money on wild cought will most likely end up costing you way more in the end. Baby chondros should not be handled at all in less absolutely neccesary for the first year. They are extremely fragile and tend to be nervous as babies.

I like that, offered to bite, like they were giving you the choice.

You've got a choice, just don't stick your hand in the cage.

And as far is me not handling juvs, like I mentioned in my post I will be buying yearlings. And I will only buy CBB snakes. I'm not going to worry about locale any more. I'm just going to buy them strictly on what looks I want now.
