Question Does Letting Go Mean Giving Up?

Lately I have been going through some difficult times - many changes happening. I am starting a catering business with an associate, as well as trying to start a family, amoung other things.

Within the past week, I have sold every herp I owned, with the exception of my very first spotted python

So my question is, does letting go of these mean that I am giving them up?

People keep asking me why I am letting them go, and for the life of me I can't find an answer. I do feel a bit of inner peace, knowing that I no longer have to worry about them (keeping temps right, proper feeding and shed schedules, etc). My place smells better

I even found homes for 2 of my cats, the newest (youngest) ones. I just have my original trio

Anyways, I would appreciate hearing from others on this.

I wouldn't say that you've given up. No way. But clearly the burden of owning and looking after them properly was more than the benefit you were getting from them. Happens with LOTS of facets in life. But the interest and fascination that drew you to them will never be gone. You never know, in 10 years, you might invest 2 months and $3,000 into a giant desert cage and that might be your passion for 5 years, and then you get something else. We all evolve and go back to our roots, then evolve some more, etc etc.

You are one of the lucky people that ACTUALLY DOES re-evaluate what's going on in your life and make changes accordingly. As long as the animals are treated nicely and all that, I see no harm in downsizing while more pressing matters take over. If I was starting a new business, I'd be pumped about it and want to put 110% of my energies into it. THEN, I'd get a few herps down the road. For sure.

Thank you guys I appreciate the warm thoughts and words. I do hope to have more herps down the road, but just not now. It helps knowing that I am doing the right thing for the animals. The new owners are wonderful, and I will still have a lot of contact with them

That's awesome that you've found them homes where you can still remain in contact with them I too have been having to downsize over the past months due to my personal health, and am still trying to decide which ones I can part with. It's a tough decision to make, but doesn't mean you are giving up. Things happen in life, you do what you have to to make them work, if that means you have to part with your guys so that they get the attention they need, then that's how it works. It's a hard choice, but at least you were able to do it :sun:
