Lizards - Rare & Unusual out there???
Hi there, just was wondering if there are any "rare, or unusual" lizards out there, that would be interesting to keep etc.
My most unusual one, or one I havent seen much, is my Jones armadillo lizard.......but I also have others.
Anyone seen anything, that's not your everyday lizard species?
Thanks!

Tiliqua rugosa aspera? I'd love a few of them too. But then who wouldn't? It's terrible to have one's dreams shattered just because they're from Australia, huh?
My friend in Adelaide keeps sending me pictures of the ones she finds on her family vacations. She's also always 'complaining' about the BTS who live in her garden and dig up her flower beds. She knows she can drive me nuts that way, it's her bit of fun.

wow, that thing has the strangest scales...I am not good about scientific names, but what species are they related to?
Dragondrop, your friend would drive me crazy too! I can't even imagine the expensive and prized exotic pet BTS you see around in collections being wild in someones garden :| lol, I'd leave food out for reptiles and spend hours walking around trying to get pictures of everyone!

Rare and unusual lizards could include Rhacodactylus trachyrhynchus, the live-bearing Rhac. They're rare in captivity and from what I gather, they're not all that common in the wild anymore.
I had Cordylus warreni at one time, they're not rare in the wild, but not all that common in captivity since they're considered 'cheap'. My pair produced one baby while I had them. They're live-bearing as well, and I could only cringe at the thought of giving birth to such a spikey baby
Other rare or unusual gecko species in captivity are Aeluroscalabotes, Underwoodisaurus and Naultinus. Lizards have even more candidates.
The common name for the Tiliqua is Shingleback Skink like Kevin said. In Australia it's also called the Eastern Bobtail.

JanKim, your lizard is beautiful!
I have a cordylus mossambicus, and I don't think he's rare in the wild, in Africa, but I've hardly ever seen them here in Canada. He's really cool looking, and interesting to watch.
