Quick Question on drying out

Well I've got two BP's coming this week from seperate owners which means I had to set up a spot, and cage in my guest room, and a hallway I don't really use since it only leads to the guest room, so I could keep the animals away from eachother (in case of mites etc), and definatly away from my other herps for the same reason. But I noticed one of the keepers I'm getting my female bp (who is 1,075 grams and beautiful) said to soak her for about 20 mins in luke warm water when I receive her because they dry out over the trip. Is this true? I mean I could see how it's definatly possible being exposed to those dry heat packs. Or do you think it's a possibility it has mites? She's got a good reputation and the snake looks great I was just wondering, as any other snake I've ever bought off line I was never informed of this. Either way I usually soak them to check for mites anyways.

the breeder is probably just trying to prevent dehydration, if you soak and newly shipped repitle, that can give them some time to drink and rehydrate. I would still check her out for mites and everything else but a 20 minute soak in warm water probably wouldn't get ride of all the mites anyways.

I have never heard of a person having to soak there snake after it being shipped and unless it's a over 12hour flight which it will most likely not be I personally think that if it does not have mites then giving it water in it's new house would be perfectly fine to keep it from getting dehydrated. So it sounds a little strange to me because i've never heard of it before. But that just my 2 cents. HTH

I didnt' soak my new arrivals when they arrived and I've had no problems? I would actually think it would be stressfull, most don't like baths!! If you are concerned about dehydration then up the humidity in the enclosure you are going to keep her in and give her a large water dish so if she wants she can soak. You could also provide a humid hide.

I guess I should have mentioned I have only heard of people soaking wild caughts after shipping. I was just saying that it would more likly to prevent/reverse dehydration then to kill off mites, youd need a bit more then a warm bath to kill off mites. Anyways good luck with your new snakes.

Yeah other than this I've never heard of soaking them after delivery either. And I do no you can't kill mites that way either however it easy quite easy to see them floating around if he does have any. This is supposed to be a 3 yr old captive born. Lets hope that is the case...

Also it's coming from Texas which will be a warm trip there. It wont be a 12 hr flight but probably a good 5 hours or so.

Yeah I don't think that you have to worry about dehydration for a trip like that so, the only thing that I can think of is that the person that told you this either doesn't know what they are talking about or they know it has mites. So if they will insure you that it is mite or parisite free then you should just give it a water dish in it's hide like normal. Then agian that just IMO.

Well I'm a bit worried, because this person at first said it is gurantee'd healthy for parasites in and out, and then in the email I sent her she said she gurantee'd live arrival and and eating great, and that's it. She has over 80 feedbacks however so I dunno I'll check it out when it gets here and if she wont refund me if it's not healthy then I'll have to say it's not eating because she did originally post the healthy gurantee. I'm sure it will be fine though and it will be well quarantined.
