After copulation?

This is going to be my first year breading bps. I've had my 100% het. alb. male copulate 1 of my 50%het.alb. fems. since then i have seperated them. I'm just wondering what others would do after this occurs. I'd just like to know step by step on how to successfully breed these guys. Also i'd like to know what could i expect with the babies eg. hets, alb.

Unless the female has gone through ovulation you need to keep breeding them . Try cycling the male in for 3 days out for 3 days until ovulation occurs or til the end of season. If I am wrong someone feel free to correct me. Best of luck to all this breeding season.

If these two balls are the only two you're breeding, I would leave him in for a longer period of time, seperating them for a few days to feed. I agree with Austin though, keep breeding them until March or so, then seperate, stop feeding the female and pray for ovulation and egg deposition. As for what you'll get, all of the babies will be 50% possible het for albinos. You'll have to breed the girls back to the father to find out if the mother is a het albino, or just a normal; you'll have a 25% chance (per egg) of producing albinos if the mother is a het, and a 0% chance of producing albinos if the mom is a normal.

Not necessarily, because if the mother is het for albino then, there is already a 25% chance (per egg) to produce albino's. From what i've heard you usually get at least one albino from a het to het breeding unless half the eggs dye or you only get 1 or 2 eggs.

Sid, the odds aren't always in your favour.

No the odds aren't always in your favor but technically Jay might end up with albino's. If you end up with albinos in the clutch, hooray!!! You just proved out your 50% possible het, if not then your babies are most likely all 50% possible het and like Mykee said you have to breed them back to the male to try to prove them out. If you get an albino from the breeding the normal siblings are called 66% possible hets. HTH, also like Mykee and Austin said keep putting the male in with her until she ovulates or March, wichever comes first! Good luck!

I put them together until the female ovulates or until they stop breeding. If you repeatedly put the male in and he does nothing, no sense putting him in AGAIN. No set date. Some females ovulate in January, some in August/September. I ain't about to tell them when to do it.

But there are a ton of ways to do it. My way is but one way, and I'm not saying its right.

Sorry mykee, I should have said if the odds gods are on your side and you get albino's then you won't have to breed back to figure it out .
