Snakes Supporter
Okay, can someone explain for me, how much this site costs to keep up? Does anything come in from "Related Businesses" who indirectly or directly advertise here?
I want to know because I would "donate" but would like to know where the $$$ goes and comes from before I do.
Sorry to be a pain, but money goes alot easier than it comes these days :grab:
Thanks
Shawn

You can't donate even if you wanted to.

If you've got money that you just need to do some good with, sea turtle conservation in Sri Lanka is a good place to start, as most nesting grounds faced obliteration from the tsunami. If anyone wants details PM me.

Well to each their own, but there is more to the picture than you may think. While I will not discourage people from donating to humanitarian causes, you have to admit that humanitarian relief is being well addressed by numerous organizations, churches, etc. And the human tragedy in that part of the world is great. But the environmental impact to marine and coastal habitats is of a scope we do not yet understand. Even amongst the nations affected which are still burying the dead, their governments are acknowledging this as an ecological disaster and are trying to assess the environmental damages as soon as possible. Perhaps you are not aware of how many small towns and villages were destroyed who's entire livelihoods depends on the natural resources. Their govenrments know that their people depend on their natural resources and think it a serious issue. It is feared that Andaman and Nicobar Islands' population of Dugongs and Saltwater Crocodiles may be wiped out due to loss of habitat. Also, November through January is laying season for majority of sea turtles, thus an entire generation of turtles may be lost. With the extensive damage to the coral reefs , numerous species of seahorse, some yet undiscovered may now be extinct. Beyond the human tragedy we are still just getting a glimpse of the ecological tragedy.
TARAS will be supporting the Turtle Conservation Project in Sri Lanka. In this case an entire town has adopted marine turtle conservation as its primary economy. So supporting them is as much a humanitarian cause as it is environmental.

Gary, why don't you post some information about how to donate to the sea turtle conservation, and some other info on how to help out?
If you post it in a new thread, I'll be more than happy to stick it to the top of the forum.

I would like to know as well, turtles are just as important and both require care. sSnakeSs is managed from a server or two which could cost more than $300 per month for two average servers, plus around $100 yearly for the cPanel License, plus paid advertising and such. You may want to PM Jeff (User: sSnakeSs), he may accept your generous donation.

The point of that comment was to say that the homeless people down there might need it more then the turtles, but Gary had a good point on the ecological damage that has been done and the fact that everyone is already donating to the people, not to the animals.
