Couple pics

Just some pics of my setup...simple but it works for me. Once I get the room the rats and mice are in emptied(gotta wait for roommate to move out) the whole room will be filled with racks

I clean my often and if i find it smells i clean it right away. The room I used is behind our living room and you really can never smell a thing.

Bartman the only way to keep the smell down is to clean cage a lot. Thankfully shaving are cheap.

If you clean to much, the male will work double time to make sure he scent marks everything

Nice set up

Nice setup Steve. Take some pics of the new racks when your roommate moves out (if you can). I'd be interested to see your new setup

Lookin' good!

Can the rats eat through the wire lid? If they can then it really cuts down on wasted food.

As for keeping the smell down, I bed mine with about 1.5" of pine and clean every Sunday, that seems to do it. I have about 1.5 sq. ft. for each female rat.

Male rats don't have that strong musky smell that male mice do. Rats don't smell unless they are not cleaned regularly. Once or twice a week is fine, depending on how many rats are in the cage and the size of cage.

True that MOST rats don't. But some male rats can have quite the musky smell, especially in enclosed cages like those, it can get quite smelly.
