CITES export permits in Canada are free of charge. In the US, they cost $55 and come with a few extended waiting period in most cases these days. As long as it's Appendix II or III animals you are importing, there is no requirement for an import CITES permit, this is only required for Appendix I animals.

Yes, if it is a CITES listed species, which all boas and pythons are (Appendix II, unless it is a species which has been listed in Appendix I).

The tricky part is getting the American to apply for the permit, then waiting 4 months for it, and that assumes it gets approved.
The person at the point of origin is the one to apply to their government for the export permit, which can only be mailed to an address in the country of export. I believe a US export permit costs 25bucks, but the shipment must be inspected prior to leaving the US and that will cost a minimum of 55US
Bringing CITES species across the border, requires much preparation ahead of time.. The permits are dispatched from Washington in most cases... You can't get them on the fly at the border.. It doesn't work that way.

I waited four months for paperwork to clear for a CB Ball Python I was importing this time last year. Currently the wait for US CITES export on CB animals seems to be around six months. It is tough to find an exporter willing to make the effort................I was ordering from a "big name" breeder and didn't mind the wait so much figuring that my BP would just be a little bigger.........it arrived at five months of age and barely heavier than a hatchling (145 grams).
I guess what I'm getting at is that in most cases it just isn't worth the hassel when most things are available from breeders already int he country.........

to hell with cites than... if i want something i will just get it shipped to the nearest american town and go get it myself.... the goverment gives it to us dry enough as it is. Lots of rural roads in the prairies. and if there is any conservation officers reading this i'm only kidding.

and if you smuggle it across and you get caught you will make the papers .

if you want something bad enough follow the rules and do it right

6 month wait is really not that big of a deal.
