Second Generation Breeding

This guy was born here 2.5 years ago approx and was in the first litter of Hogs I had every produced.

It looks like he is well on his way to being a dad himself. He is breeding a female that was imported from the U.S. Adding some new blood in the mix.

Here he is as a baby, he was produced by my Sears male bred to a female that was orginally produced by Mike Perry of Hiss and Hers pythons.

I kept him because he and a funky stripe on him.

Awesome Dan, good luck with those two, and the rest of them as well.

Very nice Dan! All my Hogs are paired up right now but nothing is happening. Maybe next year. Have you ever weighed your first time breeders just to see how big they are when they breed for the first time?
Maybe if I post pics of mine you would be able to tell me whether or not size is part of my problem.
Good luck,
Trevor

Thanks everyone

Trevor

The male in the pic is maybe 4.5 feet in length and weighs only 3 or 4 pounds if that.

The female is 5.5 feet at approx 3.5 years of age and if I was to guess her weight I would say around 10 - 12 pounds.

I once asked Rich Ihle about what weight to start breeding at and and he said that 12 - 15 pounds is the number but age also has something to do with it. This is for B.c.i I would say you are safe at 10 pounds or maybe less with Hogs as they do stay smaller in general. I try to wait until their third winter for females and the males may go through the motions at 18 months but I have yet to have a male produce at that age. I have heard of it though but I would say all my males are 2.5 years when they actually start to breed for real.

It is still early Trevor so you never know you may get some breeding in a few weeks.

Goodluck

Dan

Thanks Dan. I know that one pair is both too young and too light. The other pair has the weight, I think the age but I have to back and double check my records.
Thanks for the info,
Trevor
