I think it's horny/thorny devil, and I think they're found in Australia. Those things are awesome, but I've never heard of anyone keeping one in captivity...

Sounds like Moloch horridus, native to Australia. There is a picture here on the National Geographic site and Google Images has many more.

Second guess is Phrynosoma species of some sort, a native of Texas and Northern Mexican deserts. They don't have spines all over, but do have some and eat ants.

Wow, those lizards look wild. I wish they're more common and available for captivity.

Honestly, Hilde... you're liking a walking/talking encyclopedia You must have found a minute to come in and thaw out...or did the handle on your shovel break?

I don't think they would do well in captivity unless you have an unlimited ant farm

they eat other insects tooo.... ants are like a treat.... it was on that show with the bare foot auzzie guy.... animal instincts or killer instincts... they drink through there feet.... he put one in a jar lid of water and he stayed perfectly still and the water was slowly disipering.... then you could see moisture on his back... it was cool...

sorry... the first thing i said was i gotta try to find one of thoes.... that would be cool

Their diet is mainly ants and they will not survive on any other diet. People have tried many times, but the animals always end up dying. Here's a good link for you. http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~varanus/moloch.html
