Fruit Fly Mixture went moldy

My fruit fly mixture went moldy and didnt go to well. I didnt know where i can get yeast(pretty dumb), spirulina(dont know what it is or where to purchase this product), and calcium cabonate(again i dont know where to purchase this product). Could this be why it went moldy? So could anyone tell me where i my be able to find these products? Or have a easyer recipe that would work? I got this from my friend from another fourm. Also I know the recipe from"understory enterprises" Also when they say 6 cups of mash potatoes do most people meen the ones with flake and it takes 8mins to make?

(My Friends Recipe)
6 cups instant mashed potatoes
1/2 c. powdered sugar
12-16 oz jar of applesauce
32 oz bottle of white vinegar
3 envelopes active dry yeast (hold 1 packet till final step)
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup bee pollen powder
1 T spirulina
1 T calcium carbonate

here's what I do for my mixture and get tons of ff. when I started out I couldn't track down any of the products mentioned either so I kinda made a dozzen batches of different kinds and see what worked. So far I go with
a mashed banana, oatmeal added until its like a dough, then malt cider until its a sticky consistancy. Then I add 2 large pinchces of yeast and let it sit for 24 hours to let the gas from the yeast disapate before being flies in it.
if anything ever goes moldy for me its largely due to not having enough vinager in there.

you can get yeast from any brewery / wine shop.. or the grocery store. i get baker's yeast from the grocery store and I have never had a prob though others are adament for the brewers yeast

OOOO!!! Theres my problem I think... I didnt add yeast(cause i didnt know where it was found) and i never let it sit for 24 hours. Just a question how many cups are in 32 oz?roughly
