trying again....

I am trying again to switch over to f/t rats.....My bp does show interest but hasnt taken it yet. My question is, do they know its dead and will he strike and constrict or just start taking it down? Do these snakes approach dead food the same as live?

They will still snap and wrap it!

just make sure the feeder is warmed up a bit. I dip mine in a bucket of hot tape water for a few seconds, dab them on a paper towel and dangle it in front of the snake.

Good luck!

When using F/T I find that sometimes giving it a little 'jiggle' is helpful in initiating a feeding response...

I'm assuming you're feeding using tongs or hemostats of some sort? Just hold the rat by the tail and give it a wiggle, I find the heat and the movement set my guy off pretty much every time.

I found one my my Balls was intemidated by the size of the rat when dangling, not sure why. So I invested in a good, long pair of hemostats and started to offer the rat by grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and making it act as if it were walking around instead of dangling by the tail. Seems to work, and I also make sure that the head of the rat is good and hot. I usually thaw the rat with just hot water out of the tap and then heat up the head under a heat lamp.

Yeah i've noticed the same thing when I dangle by the tail. I always try to make it look like it's walking around now.
