Any Suggestions?

Hiyah,

I am currently fostering a 6 month old bosc monitor, which I have named Ayana (beautiful in African). She is a little overweight but besides that generally in good condition. The only problem I am having is with her temperament.

She is quite aggressive. I am hoping that with time this will calm down a little, but waswondering if you guys have any suggestions on methods of doing this. I'm relatively new to monitors and looking for any suggestions. Would be very grateful to you all.... thanks guys.

Yea, take it slow. Don't force yourself on the critter. Let it get used to you and it's new surroundings. I am working with a rescued juvie blackthroat that hates people.
Feed it, clean it's cage, and change it's water without accually messing with it.
Spend alot of time just watching it, get it used to the idea that you are not going to harm or eat it. It might come around, it might not.

I suppose everyone has their views on keeping reptiles, in regards to handling etc but unless the animal is completely OK with it (you'll know when that is) theres no point in stressing it out.

Scott said you service and do all normalities such as cleanings, feeding etc with minimal interaction. Eventually the threat will go away, (most often) but it doesnt always. They're individuals as we are. I've had savannahs lunge for me from day one till adulthood, its all in how their personal temper is.

As far as obecity goes, he shouldnt be obece under proper conditions. Unless hes been fed a can of dog food a day with bad temps (although he likely wouldnt feed if kept too cool) he's probably not obece. I recommend setting him up properly or to standard anyways, then getting it on a regular &proper feeding schedule. Diet should consist mostly of insects, and rodents.

At the moment Ayanna (the monitor) is in a 4ft by 2ft by 2 ft vivarium, i have kept it pretty basic with plenty of hides, large water bowl, and branches and rocks to sit on (not hot rocks). I'm feeding her daily with either, crickets, locusts, mice or chicks, or the odd snail.

She's finally come out of her hide and is wandering around the viv a little, I even caught her watching the T.V. yesterday.

I am really hoping that with time she will calm down because she is gorgeous, and monitors, especially aggressive ones are as hard to rehome as iguanas here.
