12 clutches and still laying!!!

Both of my 2 female DH Patternless and Rainwater Albino just laid their 12th clutch. I've been cooling them to slow them down, but they don't listen. I've had a few girls lay 9 or even 10 clutches, but 12 is new to me. They don't even look like they've started breeding, they're fat, sassy and eating machines, weigh over 70 grams.

Since the male is a PA, and they're double hets, I should get 25% PA's in a perfect world. So far they've produced 48 eggs between them, 40 hatched. The first 36 eggs produced 6 PA's, mostly albinos and surprisingly few DH normals. But today, I hit the jackpot with 2 clutches hatching. One clutch of 1 Patternless Albino and one albino, and the other clutch of 2 Patternless Abinos!!!

I'm thinking the girls want to keep laying until I've got the statistical 25% PA's.

The real purpose of this post (besides bragging

is to see if anyone else has, or has heard of leos laying 12 or more clutches in one season? Next year I'm going to start cooling them after the 8th clutch, hope to slow them down to no more than 9 or 10. Even though they aren't suffering any from the looks of it, I'm sure they would benefit from fewer eggs.

I would have to say that you've got some amazingly healthy leos on your hands!

My largest female has maxed out at 7 clutches two years in a row. The majority of the others are usually 5-6. I have also never had any of mine lay three eggs. How about you Hilde?

One of the F1 girls I had laid 3 eggs twice, but the third one was a dud each time. You could see it wasn't any good as soon as she laid it. The egg was squishy soft, hardly any shell to speak of, and never survived past 2 weeks. None of the other girls did 3 eggs, just that one. She was almost 12 inches long, and weighed over 100 grams before starting the breeding season.

I have a first time mother this year who has laid 10 clutches so far and is still going. I'm not sure when she's going to stop. I was really surprised. She is healthy and fat as well.

Here's a picture of the two over-productive moms (DH for PA), and the dad (PA).

Can't say the girls look all worn out after 12 clutches.

They look like they're ready to start the breeding season, chubby and ready to go.

Whats the substrate your using for incubation ? can't say it looks like vermiculite

Most people use perlite, peatmoss or vericulite, which work well, but each has it's good and badpoints.

I use Aquatic Pond Soil also known as Turface. It's ceramic particles with millions of pores to hold moisture. The irregular shaped particles allow for lots of air space, so there's enough air exchange with the eggs. The ceramic means it's safe to reuse after sterilizing (boiling). There's a similar product in Europe called Seramis.

Woman,! You cursed me again...

Poor ol "Lucky the Unlucky" just put down her 11th clutch..... and i'm not happy about it! Oh, she's healthy enough... but i promised her to the kid next door and she won't stop turning up gravid! She has, incidently, had a clutch of 3 eggs as well, with the 3rd being infertile... i've heard of twins from a single egg... has anyone ever had all 3 eggs come up fertile?
