Pics of my cage set-up

Well my first chameleon is coming home today and I thought I'd share a couple pics of how his cage is set-up. This is my first chameleon so any comments on how my cage looks and any advice on how to make it better would be appreciated.

I'm using a 65 gallon reptarium with a small hibiscus tree and some fake vines so he can explore most of the cage. For lighting I have a 24" reptisun 5.0 and a 75W basking lamp along with an infrared lamp if its too cold at night. There's a dual zone digital temp sensor so I can monitor temps around the cage along with a hygrometer and another temp sensor on the tree pot. I have a 2 gallon dripper set up and I'll mist at least twice a day. The cup at the bottom is for feeding, I wasn't sure where to put it so we'll see how it works and maybe I'll have to move it. The cage is on a stand with a drip pan underneath so water can get out.





Please let me know what you guys think.

thats pretty sweet dude. You could maybe put some paper towels to line the bottom, to help hold your humidity. Just make sure to change the paper towel weekly. Just a suddgestion but i think your chameleon will love it. What species are you getting?

That looks real nice. My suggestion would be to move the feeder cup below the basking area. The cham most likely will be hanging in that area - so it will be easier to see. Also think about free ranging the crickets too and then removing loose crix at the end of the day. Chams like to hunt and its good exercise. Good job though - looks like you did your research.

some thoughts

if your getting a baby more cover might be needed to make it feel secure. some of those fake plants moved to the frunt of the cage migh help it feel secure. but might not matter some chams dont need it some do.

you will probably have to play with the cup till u figer out what is good for your cham, I like how u covered the bottom half. u might need something bigger though latter on and like roo said try free ranging what he will eat and leave the cup for extras keeps them active.

you will prolly end up changing that cage a few times till your happy but it looks great. i must have changed my cages tuns of times...

Thanks for the comments. I paid $150 for the cham and $75 for shipping to Edmonton on westjet, I pick him up tonight. I'm a little concerned about the shipping, seems like that would be pretty stressful for a chameleon but hopefully he arrives safe and sound.

75 for shipping is a little high ... but hey as long as everything turns out ok money shouldnt be a factor.

My cham went from California to New York. I picked him up at the UPS place which was really close to the airport. I drove him home which took 45 minutes. I opend up the box to find him bright green and totally stoked to get into his new enclosure. I am sure its stressful, but they cant see anything being in the box which I think helps.

I brought him home last night and he seems healthy and happy, I think he likes his new cage, he's so small, body is less than 3 inches long. I'll post some pics after he's gotten used to his new environment and stops hiding in his tree, I don't want to bother him too much.

I posted another thread with a few questions I have, probably just new owner worries.
