Holy Poopin Poop!
Hey all!
Well, tonight, I decided to try soaking my blood for the second time in the last week, week and a half, to see if she would poop! She excreted one urate pelet in mid-january(when I got her), then nothing AT ALL! till now. I had her in the bath, and my friend was over. I could feel ALOT stacked inside of her. She started to open her cloaca and I started to massage out excrement over the next 10 minutes. In all, she put out 6 urate pellets, and 9 poop pellets! There is a little more in her, but I was VERY satisfied to see that come out. I estimate the weight of all that "stuff" to be about 200-250 grams! She is only about 2ft long, so thats quite a bit. Just thought I'd share a "rewarding"(well good) event of the night!
Eat Well!

The last time my bloods went was nearly 2 months ago. I feed them one med rat weekly, they are about 2-1/2 - 3FT long.
Do you soak them in cool or warm water? I usually soak my snakes once every 6 weeks or during shed, especially the big ones that can't soak in their water bowls.

If they have been pooping every one to two months, dont worry about it. They do have a slow metabolism. My case was not very common. I figure that since she has all that out now, she will poop more regularly. If your bloods dont poop by 4 months(from their last poop) then get worried. Normally, you can feel the lumps in the area just forward of the cloaca. These are the poops. It is also possible to distinguish which of those lumps are fecal pellets and which are urates.
All my snakes have waterbowls they can soak in themselves, so I dont worry about soaking them. My two Kenyan sand boas also have humid hides on top of the waterbowls, so I leave them alone for the most part, less touching/bothering = less stress on the animal. The 3 bloods ofcourse dont need humid hides because they have high humidity and are in sphagnum moss. My boa only has a large dish he can soak in, buts its bigger than it needs to be so I dont provide him with a humid hide, and he has the correct humidity anyways. Hope that helped!

Actually- As yucky as it is, im glad you posted this. Ive been wondering about snake constipation, as mine wont poop either. He is still only about 6 months old, and I know as hatchlings they will absorb a great bulk of their food, so I havent worried too much. (havent hit the 4 month mark, either). He has passed some urates too, so that's good, and im hoping all the bulk on him is actualy weight gain rather than poo.
Gross but informative! Thanks Chris!

From what I know, balls tend to poop more often then bloods, but try palpating the back end, and check if there is any poop stacked up in there. If it has been passing urates, I wouldn't worry too much as it has probably absorbed most of the other stuff, but It should pass some poop soon. Good luck!
