'Virosan' Anyone use it???

Just wondering if anyone is using this product for cleaning their cages?? Was just searching some classifieds and came across it, they mention it's what the vets use and such.. So, i was just curious if any of you guys are using it and what you think of it? Also, where you're getting it from... Thanks in advance..

MATT:

Hi there, I know the stuff you are asking about. I am ordering some soon. I heard about it 1st on a Rich Ihle Boa video I picked up almost 1/2 year ago. List of people that use it are:

Vets for there business.
Hospitals for cleaning even washing floors with it.
Bird Breeders to clean us and sterilize babies.
Rich Ihle uses it like its water right after a boa baby birth, cleaning up cages, and sterilizing.

Because of that I am getting some, this product kills alot of bacteria, diseases and harmful situations on animals. The list is extensive. Its even used against HIV for sanition.

It must be mixed with water something like 1/64 ratio I think.

I am ordering from USA and I think it will be here in 3 weeks. Its not cheap, but the "PROS / CONS" are all PRO.

Cya...

Tony

I use it after cleaning out tubs, water bowels, hides and cages. It has a mild scent which is nice (compared to say, bleach solutions). I like the product and it adds minimal time to my cleaning. Pro Exotics sells it, that's where I got mine.

You can get generic Nolvassan from the Bean Farm. You get a gallon of concentrate which makes ~128 gallons of solution or 512 - 32 oz squirt bottles. You might want to split a bottle with a friend because it is a lot of concentrate and it comes with an expiry date.

This is going to get slightly off topic but... Anyone ever read the instructions for Virosan or similar products? They work GREAT when used appropriately, but they're supposed to be left on the surface you want disinfected for upwards of an hour depending on the manufacturer and specific product (encompassing similar hospital grade disinfectants). They're more effective even in a spray and wipe kind of use than a bottle of 409... I mention this not to take away from better grades of disinfectant, but to point out just how little smearing some over the counter bathroom and tile cleaning product really is really doing.

Well worth the money for the higher quality products, be it through a herp specific retailer (Bean farm, ProExotics) or obtained a bit more directly at a lower cost.

If you cannot secure a source through that connection, you can also try contacting your local vet, and they should be able to supply you with a clorhexidine solution. It's used as a surface cleaner, as well as to prepare skin for and in a lavage solution during surgery.
