baby gerbil :(

Very annoyed, came home today and heard squeeking from the gerbil tank.....gerbil had ONE baby, and all the care sheets say that when they have only one it will die cuz by itself it can't encourage milk flow.

i was doing the baby gerbil dance and everything........ pooey!

Anyone breed gerbils that can confirm, or hopefully deny, this claim? Please let me know!

I've bred gerbils a few times, not really into them. :P But I have had a time or two when there was only one baby and it seemed to do just fine. I guess you'll know for certain tomorrow.
Take care

My friend used to breed gerbils and I recall a few times where they only had one baby and it did fine. It doesn't really make much sense to me that you would need more than a single baby to stimulate milk flow, it isn't the job of the baby, the mother is already prepared for that. I know other types of rodents are capable or raising single babies, so why wouldn't gerbils?

I breed gerbils and have on occassion had only one baby and everything went well. Good luck with the gerbils. They are my fav rodent, so friendly and curious.

If you are really worried you can hand feed it KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) from a dropper every couple hours.. PM me and I can send you some links for more info.
