Thermostats/dimmers and digital thermometers

Where's the cheapest and best place to pick thermostats or dimmers and digital thermometers up? I saw a ZooMed rheostat at the pet store for 30 bucks but i think i can do better then that?

and are all the thermostats and dimmers you would see in hardware stores compatable with heat pads and spotlights?

thanks again

Just get a lamp dimmer from Home Depot or Walmart. Don't pay $30 for something you can get for $20.

ok but will the dimmer actually shut the pad off when it gets to hot like a thermostat?..i have no experince with either, in my snake cages my i have just used a heat lamp with a standard cheap thermometer over his basking area and another on the cool side of his tank

no, the dimmer merely reduces the power to the heating unit.
