Farwell to Azure
My Somali Uromastyx died last night of unknown causes. (an autsopsy is being done to find out why and I'll know tomorrow hopefully) I got him at the TARAS show at the end of april. He was brought to the vets right away and was given a clean bill of health. He didn't eat too much right away but never refused food either. In the last week he started to eat more and more so I stopped worrying and was excited for when he started to put on weight! However yesterday when I went in to feed him he was gone. He must have died quickly because I had checked on him just hours before and he seemed fine. ??? Hopefully I'll find out why he died.
Azure was the pest reptile I have ever owned!!! When I walked into my reptile room and called his name he would run up his log and wait for me to let him out. He had a big jungle gym and got to sit on my shoulder while I watered everybody and whatever else I did in there. He would fall asleep in my hands when I petted his cheeks, eat out of my hands and watch the kingsnakes beside him, staring forever at the slither around. He will be missed sooooooooooo much and a piece of my heart goes with him.
RIP Azure

No they weren't. All those Uro's that were lumped into one little cage, None of them looked very healthy. But sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. I am very sorry about your pet. I also love Uro's. They are highly under rated in Canada. I hope that you will consider getting another one at some point. Sorry again. TB

Thanks so much everyone for your kind words. I will get another Uro again and hope to breed them someday. This time I'll wait till I have the cash for a captive bred. Thanks again.

I'm so sorry, that's really terrible. I know it's so very difficult to lose a pet.
Uros are the best! But the WC uros are often VERY hard to acclimate. Definitely try and get a captive bred next time.
Best wishes,
Nicole

Thanks everyone again for their kind words. They are much appreciated. Got the final word today. Apparently he had a bacterial infection growing in his intestines that probably came from drastic changes in his diet. My vet said there was nothing I could have done. I guess I was pretty stupid in buying a wild caught Uro (even though I was told he was farmed).
Well I hope he enjoyed his last month with me because I sure enjoyed having him.
