survival rates stink for most large monitors....people buy them with out knowing much about them and with out will to learn....these babies but in pet stores are often in rough shape....look at the tail....you can usally see the hips....

its actually quite sad.....but i recomend never buying an animal to "rescue" it. I always recommend doing your self a favour and only buying the best animals...it will make your experence as a care taker easier....

personally i'm not a nile fan....I like the watermonitors much better but that is niether here nor there....the reason i bring it up is that niles with their big attitudes tand to have inexperenced keepers distance them selves and care usally suffers....as far a price goes where i am 60 bucks cnd is not bad so in US $ ...40 sound ok....but i recomend spending what ever is need to get the best animals....spend extra if you have to suport store that are better then others....

ps......never buy anything that is not eating...I won't even buy a ball that not eating....unless its from someone i trust.....

Thanks for your info,,I am not going to purchase one ,,just thought that they were awfully small to be being sold!!
I would never buy something that is not eating, either, your only asking for problems..
Most of them have been sold to university students..
The owner dose not care if the people do not know how to take care of them,,just as long as he gets his $$$$
It just really pisses me off when all that maders is the money and not the care of the animals
