lol.. so true..

a friend of mine received a tech call from one of their other offices.. their computer would not start. they tried everything, but the computer would not turn on. the person with the problem computer figured it was hardware related. my friend asked the guy for the computer model, serial number, etc etc so they could help diagnose the problem/record the problem a bit better.. what does the guy on the other end do? he said "i can't see it, the power is out in the whole building and i don't have a flashlight"..

it was a rather amusing conversation.

All I do at work is take calls for people in stores who have problems with their computers and cash registers.

I think the 2 most common things I have to explain to them is that when I ask to turn the computer off and on, it is the button on the computer and not the monitor.
2nd, try to explain what a printer looks like cause they can't find it, but it's always on the damn counter and they take the paper to give the bill to the client hundreds of times in a week and still don't know what it is...

Oh and a 3rd one, how do you wnat a computer to communicate at night if you turn off the breakers when you leave??? hahaha how many times did we have to send techs to check the modem only to realise a few days later that they turn off all the breakers to the store when they leave...

I hope that it doesn't parse out the "bad" word in the URL.

BOFH is one of the funniest things I've ever read on tech support. And there's TONS of episodes.

I've had to ask for a 9 year old before. Had to go into the registry and the parent was not to be trusted....

I've also had some write the word "click" on their monitor, right over "my computer"....

Agh! I have experienced that too. I spoke with a 10 year old girl because her parents were too computer illiterate to be any help to themselves. This little girl listened to my instructions and had the computer fixed in two minutes.

On another occasion, I signed a customer up for dial-up account, then helped her create her connection in dial-up networking. When done, I asked her to right click on her connection and select 'create shortcut', and it will automatically tell her 'a shortcut cannot be created here, would you like to place it on your desktop instead?' Simple enough, no? Well, she was trying to TYPE the word CLICK on top of her connection. I almost died from laughter from that one. *L*:dumb:

They had to get some sort of cleaner to get rid of the word click. They were mad at me because they were so stupid and wrote on their monitor. When they asked for a superviser I told them they would just laugh at them. They didn't like that either.
