Carpet Enclosure(new to the snake world)

We just recently got a beautiful 7 month old Corn Snake. We think he's great. We are now looking at getting a Irian Jaya Carpet in about a year or so.
Can anyone tell me what size of enclosure I would need for a full grown Carpet. I would really like to build a show enclosure before we get one.

From what I've read they need a somewhat tall (3ft) enclosure so they can climb branches.

Is there an live plants you can't us for a Corn or Carpet? I would love to piut live plants in the enclosures.

I think it will take a while to pick an enclosure I like as well as save the money and build it.

as addicting as snakes are, I would say just go with the bare essentials IN each cage.

Choice of substrate, hides, water bowl. lol

Live plants need all kinds of care. Plus their soil can have little nasties in it.

3 feet is really tall. A foot and a half or two would be lots of space for an IJ. I plan to build mine 36"x18"x18" but you could go bigger if you like.

Some people on this site have built some really nice enclosures. When you get down to the actual planning of the enclosure, I;m sure you'll get a ton of great ideas from here.

Firstly, welcome to sSnakeSs.com!

IJCP don't *need* 3', but if you want to provide them with a more-than-the-basics setup, than go for it

As sapphire_moon mentioned, live plants can be a bit of a task in a snake enclosure. Some plants are ok with smaller snakes, however I can't think of one live plants that would last a day with anything like an IJCP. Fake plants and small trees work nicely in conjunction with large climbing branches, platforms, rocks, etc. As for what is safe and what is not, as long as it is non-toxic and not spiny, it shouldn't harm your snakie

If someone is willing to put forth the effort in creating and maintaining a naturalistic display for their animals, there isn't any reason to discourage the idea, IMHO.

I really like the natural look of live plants. I have about 15-20 in my house, none with bugs.
Linds- Do you know what plants are toxic, or where I could find this info?

Do they eat or damage plants.

I would really just like to have some sort of vine on the side. Like a philodendrium. I'm really looking to have a showcase, as well as a great place for the snakes.

Hey welcome to the site. Do a search on google for the plant toxicity for the best results id say. What Linds means I think is that with snakes they just trample everything in their way. I tried to do a huge setup for my ball python and make it look really cool with a plant but he just cruised on it till it was no more. Use a pathos plant if you want a cheap vine for the carpet. They grow like weeds and are the only plant my animals havent been able to kill.
