When to Herp

I was just wondering when the best time to start herping would be, soon the herps should be coming out of their pits and I've heard thats the best time to herp. So if anyone know when this starts or anything regarding the best times to herp please post back. I live on the the border of central and west texas.

In VA herping will pick up in about a month or two, but thats just garters, everthing else will pick up about may.

Snakehunter, does it really take until May for the snakes to come out in VA? It seems like here in Indiana they can usually be found consistently in early April.

sometimes, it depends on the weather and the species.

In some areas it takes a LONG time for ponds to thaw, and the wawa snakes are few and far between. Garters on the otherhand are plentiful, and should start emerging SOON.
