After searching many areas and finding nothing but homes and traffic, it was a releaf to come across this tubby Spea hammondii.

Five were spotted, and breeding choruses could be heard about the entire wash..

Usually I come across hundreds of these guys, but oddly, this was the only one spotted, it was calling from a roadside, tire rut that filled with water.

Others animals seen:
Western Toads
Jerusalem Cricket
Shrews
Bobcat

Awesome finds! What type are the first two guys? Look almost like great basin spades?

Spadefoots

The species photographed is the Western Spadefoot. This species and the Great Basin are similiar in appearance except, Great Basin's possess a boss between eyes.
