Where would i go to get a decent corn snake?
My wife saw one this weekend at a pet store and i asked the guy that worked there how much? He said $49 for a baby (approx. 7-8") is that normal pricing? I don't know what phase it was

depending on the phase it is. Actually since you are in texas here is a website

www.cornsnake.net/new/cornprice.php3

Don Soderberg, right there in texas, We got our Motley Amel from him, she is about 6-7 months old, on rat babies (new born) and getting one rat pup every 5 days. Even though she looks for food like 2 days after she eats.

He is awesome to work with. And will answer any question you have. Just take a look at the website!

Maybe, but it is best to always know certain things before hand.

Like set up the cage it will be in for atleast 1 wk before you put the snake in there so you can make sure the temps stay where they are supposed to be.
Knowing the prey size for the size of snake you are getting, and how often to feed.

And that when you first get a snake you should put it in its cage, in a low traffic area, and leave it alone for atleat 2wks before you handle it, then let it eat successfully atleast 2 times before you start handling sessions (of more than like the 5 min it would take to clean it's cage)

that you should not put it on pine or cedar and never feed on a loose substrate.

What kind of cage accessories will you need? A Under Tank Heater (UTH) with a lamp dimmer to keep it at the proper temp. Things like that you NEED to know BEFORE you get the snake. Not afterwords.

What are you going to do with a sick snake?
You might want to look for a good herp vet in your area to, you can could find one by going to www.herpvetconnection.com

You might want to get the book
"The Corn Snake Manual" by Kathy Love

WHEN you get the corn? It is probably better to get to know a vet and if they even know what they are doing BEFORE you get the snake. Or you could end up with someone that does not really know what they are doing.
