What do you use to mist your cages??

Hi everybody,

I was just wondering what everybody uses to mist their cages... I have spray bottles, but to give every cage a decent misting, I end up with "carpal tunnel syndrom"(sp?) before I'm done!! I need some kind of pressurized bucket of warm water and all I have to do is press a button on the end of a hose or something.. what do people like Don Patterson, Jeff Favelle or Corey Woods do when they have so many animals??

There are pump sprayers you can pick up at your local Home Depot. Basically there is a little pump on the top that you pump for a few seconds, then you hold down the trigger and it lasts for a few minutes, until the pressure is depleted. A little more expensive, but when you have ton's of high-humidity lovers, its definitely worth it.

Well, I only mist my bp's cages when they are in shed, so it really isn't too much work for me. Maybe two or three at any given time. Atomizers (spray bottles) work great for my applications, but you could pick up a pump sprayer at a garden supply store like tHeGiNo recommended.

I saw a mister at the pet store. It had a timer that you could set to go off at set intervals for periods from 10-60 seconds. It can run off of batteries or AC power. It hangs on the side of the tank/enclosure. I think it may have had interchangeable nozzles.

Sounds great right? It was $99 though. I'm sure someone could rig up a similar set up for less.


I don't know what the big breeders do but I'm sure they don't fret over humidity like regular keepers tend to. They probably just keep the snakes in enclosures that are humidity friendly and keep a water dish in there.

Also, it's much easier to raise the ambient humidity in a whole room than it is to keep up humidity in a tank that is in a room/house with dry air. Large breeders would not have to worry about humidity in each enclosure if the humidity in the room is high enough.

Hi Bristen –

I now reserve all my spray bottles for use as disciplinary tools (No! Bad Cat!) and bought a pump-up garden sprayer for maintaining humidity during the winter in my cages. The one I got at Home Depot is a RL Flomaster 1025HD. It has a 2.5 gallon capacity. I think it was around $25, less than $30. Something in the plunger mechanism recently gave out, but I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt because I never dissembled or greased it as recommended. I find this type of pressure sprayer to be a very useful tool. If someone didn’t have enough cages to justify having something this large around, one could check out the smaller-capacity pump-up hand sprayers. But I suspect the really good ones are just about as expensive.

I use a RL Flo-master 2.5pint/1.8 Liter sprayer.

You pump it up like a Super Soaker. Then you can spray. It works AMAZING! I have had it two years and it works as well today as it did the first day I bought it. Its lightweight and just amazing. i couldn't live without it LOL.

It cost me around 10 dollars canadian at Wal Mart.

I used to use a spray bottle but have found that I really don't need to mist at all.
