Virus alert hoax!!!!

I've received an email telling me to delete the file : "jdbg.exe" and telling people to delete this file because its a virus. It was from a friend who got screwed to and did the same by e-mailing it to others like me thinking it was true!

DONT delete this file its a hoax!!! I just called a computer company to ask them what to do and to ask them what it does because i deleted it.

They told me it does not do any harm on the computer except for those who write java. It can be restored in windows by reinstalling the file.

I'm really sorry for that and I apologize I got screwed to!

That sucks Stav. Thanks for the heads-up.

I personally don't open ANY e-mail from anyone I don't know.

And a note to anyone who doesn't know this, but if you get an e-mail from "Microsoft Corporation" DELETE IT IMMEDIATLY. Microsoft NEVER sends attachments through e-mail. The most Microsoft will provide is a link to their website where you can download the file. Much safer this way.

Heya Stav,

Any time you get any warnings about viruses or even things like food recall warning in your mail, there's a couple of sites worth checking out before taking action to delete stuff or forward the email.

www.snopes.com is a great site for tracking down hoaxes, urban legends, and other things. If it's been sent around to people via email chances are they've researched it.

the virus encyclopedia at Trend Micro is quite handy too. especially if you need to evaluate the threat a possible infection poses to you:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/

By the way, you might want to go to all the other forums you cross posted this in and delete it. It doesn't need to be posted in the reptile forums.

Symantec's Security Response is also a GREAT place to look to see if viruses are real or a hoax. Here's the link:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/

For those less savvy, Symantec are the makers of Norton Antivirus, and are considered by most to be the authorities in virus protection. They also commonly have free fixes on their sites for some of the nastier viruses such as MyDoom and Blaster32, completely free. Good site to keep bookmarked.
