what the heck??
my red belly already isn't the brightest turtle in the world, he ocasionaly swims into the glass and dives off his turtle ramp in the worst place, where its right next to the glass, so he'll run right into that. But today he did one of the weirdest things i ever saw an animal do. He eats like a horse, i can never feed him enough, every other day he gets turtle pellets and every day he gets bits of anacharis plants, he also gets meal worms and crickets at times. And hes constantly hungry, he'll even eat his own poop. But what he did today was much weirder... I believe its male turtles that put their hands in front of their face and tickle famles with their claws, and i believe it has somthing to do with mating, well i caught him doing that to his poop. He continued to do it for about 2 minutes when i moved him up on his ramp and scooped the poop out with a fish net. Why the heck would he do that?

Your exactly right it has to do with mating....my old red eared used to do that when i put a finger up to the glass....im not sure why he would do that to feces but who knows...turtles live in their own little world...hahaha

Yes my red ear slider Mikey tries to entice a brick I use in his enclosure...he does it for like three weeks in march usually. But I never see him do it at other times of the year.

Your turtle is simply trying to mate with anything that seems familiar to him. It is no different than animals, or people for that matter, that masturbate. He is just doing what nature programmed him to do, albeit with a somewhat unattractive mate!!! He will only do it for a few weeks, or maybe a month at the most. After that, he will be back to normal. You should find him a mate, that way you could have some nice little cb babies to offer.
Take care, Johnny.

hahaha, wow thats a really funny way to look at it, my turtle is somewhat trying to masturbate. Thanks for that info it helpd me understand his odd behavior much better. I'd rather not get him a mate because for one, id just rather not deal with eggs and stuff and 2 its ilegal to seel turtles under 4 inches long in the US. I have 2 other turtles but they are just baby red-eared sliders and they'll be housed with him when there all the same size. Maybe i'll get hybrids?

Why not get him a nice toy turtle then? Maybe that might help?

LOL, my sliders "wack it" with just about everything any time of the year. When I put 2 of my males together for awhile they took turns trying to court and mount eachother. LOL It was hilarious. I had to seperate them.
